Performance
I’ve been privileged to perform at corporate and private events, creating large-brush calligraphy works, writing custom name-cards, and creating live sumi-e artworks.
I have so much fun at every event, I’m always excited to have an opportunity to meet people! I’m happy to interact with guests, and answer any questions they have about the Japanese language, calligraphy, my home country, etc.
Large-Brush Calligraphy Performance
Add drama and visual impact to your event with a large-brush calligraphy performance.
I use a 1-meter brush to write your custom word or phrase in giant kanji. The finished piece is 1.3 – 2m wide and up to 4 – 7 meters long. Fantastic for guests to watch, and a memorable moment for your function or gathering. I can wear a casual kimono, and will be happy to interact with guests before and after the performance.
Note: requires a large space (preferably indoors), and 30 mins to prepare.

Depending on the event, you might like to pair the large-brush performance with a name-card-writing side-event, where I write guests’ names in Japanese, on cards for them to take home – scroll further down for details.
Custom Name-Cards for Guests
I write guests’ names on thick cards in beautiful Kanji, for them to take home. The cards are tied with a ribbon, so they’re easy to carry. It’s fun for guests to learn the true meaning of their name in Japanese – I’m happy to explain this to them! I can also write any favourite words or phrases the guest has, or write name-cards for their family.
For this activity, I bring all materials, but would need a (small) table and chair to be provided.
Live Sumi-e Painting
If you are planning an art-themed or Japanese-themed event, one option is for me to create a Sumi-e painting (Japanese ink painting) live at the venue. This can be to one side of the event space (not a “main attraction”) – guests can watch casually as the artwork is created (around 20-mins per artwork.)
Paintings can be your choice of cherry blossoms, bamboo, or mountain scenery.
The final artwork(s) will be yours to keep. You can display them at the event, or you can use the artwork for a lucky door prize for your guests, or anything you like : )
