In 2021, Sokyo Restaurant underwent a huge brand relaunch.
An integral part of the new brand identity involved the use of traditional Japanese calligraphy across advertising, staff uniforms and livery. However, the most exciting part of the project was the task of painting 80 feet of murals inside and outside the restaurant.
After an exhaustive search for the right artist, the team at Sokyo were extremely lucky to find Tomoko Oka. Tomoko is a master of many calligraphy styles, having studied the form since the age of ten.
After weeks of planning the artist spent 4 weeks creating a breathtaking piece of art. Due to the masterful skills of Tomoko, the work has become a powerful backdrop and a constant reminder for staff and customers of the Sokyo principles of ritual and art.
David Heytman Art Director at The Star
We have been working with Tomoko for a few years now and she has helped us create the most amazing calligraphy artwork for 3 of our restaurants.
She is wonderful to work with and I cannot praise enough her professionalism and the quality of her work.
Every time we open a new restaurant, we always ensure that we reserve a space for her amazing artwork and she never disappoint us.
